We took Mustache in about a year ago, and my one stipulation was that the cat we got was a boy. I was assured by our friend that our kitten was a boy, and I just believed him. ...I should have checked. Yesterday when Mustache walked out to greet me I noticed that his belly was a little fuller than normal. When I lifted him up it was pretty obvious that he is actually a she, and that the fuller belly is a pregnant belly. Not going to lie...I am excited to have some kittens! |
Our kids were little at the time, and I had taken them inside for bed while Shannon fed the animals. He came running up the stairs after just a few minutes...
S: "Libby! You have to go outside and see something!"
L: "What is it? I need to finish getting the kids ready for bed."
S: "You need to go see what is outside!"
L: "Just tell me what it is."
S: "A baby DONKEY!"
L: "Whatever." (Shannon is often telling me and the kids tall tales.)
S: "I swear! Cocoa had a baby!"
Sure enough, there was this perfect baby donkey. He was the prettiest little thing I had ever seen.
Oh, were they the cutest!
Fast forward a year and she had another litter of piglets, but this time she had nine!
I just need to not trust people apparently, and I must always double check to see if the animals we get have balls...or not.
I showed the cat to my husband last night and it was not my imagination that kittens would be entering our lives soon, but we decided that we should wait to tell the kids, or they would never get to sleep.
M: "Shannon, come look at Mustache, I think he is going to have kittens."
S: "I thought we knew it was a boy, I thought he had balls!"
M: "Well, I just took Cody's word and figured Mustache was a boy."
S: "That is definitely a pregnant belly."
Once the kids found out this morning they were of course excited, and they are ready to keep every single kitten. We may keep one, but they rest we will need to find good homes.
One of these days I will figure out this 'birds and the bees' thing...one of these days.
