It was a Thursday, the day after my birthday, and just a few days before Mother's Day. We made a trip to Indianapolis and got back late enough that Shannon said he would take care of feeding the animals while I gave R.J. and Lily baths.
Not five minutes after he had gone outside, Shannon ran back into the house and upstairs. "Lib, you have to go outside now! Cocoa had a baby! We have a baby donkey!"
I looked at Shannon, realized he was not making this up and ran outside to find the most precious animal I had ever seen.
The little donkey was hiding behind his momma, but when I walked up closer he allowed me to pet him. Shannon and the kids came out a few minutes later, because there was no way R.J. and Lily were going to sleep without seeing the new baby. They were amazed at this special little creature that had "magically" appeared while they had been in Indianapolis. It was hard to go into the house and go to sleep because everyone just wanted to stare at this incredible surprise.
The donkey spent about a week without a name until it was decided that he (initially we thought it was a she) would be called Jellybean. Lily and RJ insisted that we also use Cupcake as part of his name so Jellybean Cupcake, the surprise baby donkey, became his official name.
